You have arrived at my gate
Rest here a moment
The Field has been waiting
I am Sharyn Ann. I live on a 1,600-hectare ranch in the Little Karoo, beneath the Swartberg mountains, where the light does something in the late afternoon that I still have no language for. This is where I do my work.
Whatever brought you here, a longing you cannot quite name, a loss you are still learning to carry, a sense or a feeling that something is asking to be heard, or perhaps a number that keeps finding you.
In Irish, we have a word for this kind of moment: Céad Míle Fáilte (a hundred thousand welcomes.) I’m so glad you’re here.
Some things cannot be explained. They can only be felt, and then, slowly, named. What I do, at its heart, is this. I sit with people, with their losses, their loves, their longings, their names, their numbers, their stars. I read the Field, and pass on what I find there, as carefully as I can, with open hands. And I find language for what they have always, on some level, already known.
There are two bodies of work here. They are different in shape, but they come from the same place. The same listening. The same open hand.
